FROM THE FRONT LINE OF THE APPLEBY HORSE FAIR

Once again, Durham Photographic Society members ventured boldly across the Pennines for this endlessly fascinating annual event in early June. After the usual early start and parking half way between the town and the camping fields it was then a matter of enjoying the extensive social and photography opportunities. Everything from the famous horse washing in the river at the Sands (and ford further up stream), to the thrills of the Flashing, to the horse trading, to the incredible variety of trading stalls and to the acres and acres of camping fields containing painted wagons and luxurious modern caravans alike, to meeting travellers from all over the UK. Altogether, a photographer’s paradise.

This year a BBC film crew from the One Show were on site with Appleby due to be featured in the show this coming Wednesday.
