UPDATE: HARTLEPOOL TALL SHIPS RACES 2010

9th AUGUST

Last chance, with only tonight, and the Eve of Sail Spectacular, and tomorrow left for DPS Assignment enthusiasts to capture some cracking good images from this truly spectacular event on our doorstep.

Tuesday the 10th August is the final day of The Tall Ships Races in Hartlepool. This is the day that the fleet depart and perform a ‘Parade of Sail’. In 2010 this amazing spectacle will be known as ‘The Grand Farewell’ and the whole day will be focused on the ships and their crew preparing their vessels to head off to sea once more.

The whole operation will need to be timed to perfection, all vessels in Hartlepool Marina will have a window of approximately 2hrs over lunchtime to leave their berths and exit via the lock-gates. Timing is critical as the North Sea tide will wait for nobody!

Once the ships are clear from the marina the whole fleet will assemble approximately 1mile offshore to begin an unrivalled procession of spectacular ships. Starting to the South of Hartlepool close to Seaton Carew and the mouth of the River Tees each ship will be in full sail and in a pre-determined sequence to showcase the mighty fleet. The course the fleet will take is likely to head towards Hartlepool Marina, Hartlepool Headland and then further north towards Blackhall.

For visitors there are many excellent viewing points to witness this amazing sight, most of which are a short distance away from the Tall Ships Village – Seaton Carew and the Headland both offer what may be the best vantage points.

Traditionally the busiest evening of the four day celebration the night will be brought to a close by a planned pyrotechnic display quite like no other! The night skies of Hartlepool will light-up with displays from three distinct locations bringing the day to a close while the crew members settle to prepare themselves for the BIG day ahead…

UPDATE: HARTLEPOOL TALL SHIPS RACES 2010

6th AUGUST

As more and more of the magnificent Class A ships arrive, this wonderful event looks to be building up to be one of the highlights of the decade for the North East.

The main berthing areas of the Victoria Harbour and Marina are linked by a vast Tall Ships Village with every attraction you can imagine and countless food outlets. Huge crowds are expected over the weekend. On site there is plenty of space over several acres but to avoid delays the best approach is to get there early! Check out   the website for details of Park and Ride and Park and Walk sites. Parking on the Headland is for residents only. The West View Road Park and Walk is the nearest, some quarter or half a mile (depending which part of the huge field you end up in!) from the Victoria Harbour entrance.

Look out for fellow members, many on assignment, who will be out in force. In fact why not get together and share the £10 per car cost of parking.

News Update; Bike Wise 2010

This annual event goes from strength to strength, this years attendance was in the region of fifteen thousand. Let’s hope this great event is spared from any cut backs. The day is aimed at improving safety and security for bike enthusiasts across the region, as well as providing a hugely enjoyable family day out for all, organised by Durham Constabulary.

Highlights included the chance to meet the legendary John McGuiness and the other riders of the HM Plant Honda Racing team and to see an incredible displays from the stunt rider Dave Coates and the Airraid team. The Mini Moto Club attracted a great deal of attention during the day as they showed their skills on a fast but demanding circuit.
