EXHIBITION NEWS - The Music Factory

THE SAGE GATESHEAD

Now showing in the Explore Music section of The Sage Gateshead is an exhibition of photography by members of Durham Photographic Society. Fourteen members took part in the project which was organised by former DPS President Alan Stott who is himself a musician. The aim was to explore aspects of making music through the medium of photography. Subjects range from John Clarke’s images of a violin maker at work to Ian Stafford’s Arctic Monkeys on stage in Newcastle.

DPS President David Trout said, “These pictures are absolutely brilliant. I am once again astounded by the quality and range of photography produced by our members. I feel very proud and inspired”.

The exhibition is on until the end of the year and was sponsored by Permajet and Cruse Bereavement Care. Printing was by ImagesOn.

ZOMBIE WALK SUNDAY 31st October

The Zombies will be meeting in Northumberland Street outside of Fenwicks between 6:15 and 7:00. The walk will probably begin around 7:00 or when the group momentum begins to peak.

They'll then move to Monument in a dispersed and disorganized fashion. The majority of people will be moving toward Central via Grainger St and toward the quayside via Grey St. i.e. in the more photogenic streets of Newcastle. And then down to the Riverside and towards the Millennium Bridge.Crossing the Millennium bridge.

Angy will be there!

PORTFOLIO GROUPS ON THE DPS WEBSITE

A great way to show pictures, receive and give feedback, we currently have four thriving portfolio groups:

i-witness: a group of around 12 members

dpsdigital: open to all DPS members

Victoria: a long standing group of around 10 members

Eyefetch: for enthusiasts of black and white photography – a group of around 10 members

HOW IT WORKS:

A. Monthly arrangement, eg i-witness: members post one picture each in the 1st half of every month and comment on all the pictures in the second half.

B. Ad-lib arrangement, e.g. dpsdigital, Victoria and Eyefetch: members post images and comments whenever they like.

dpsdigital is open to all DPS members. Simply contact John Brown to receive your user name and password and away you go.

i-witness is closed at the moment but if you want your name on the waiting list, contact Neil Maughan.

Victoria and Eyefetch membership is by invitation. Contact John Brown for more information.

Opportunity for all - you can set up your own portfolio group of like-minded members, perhaps with specialist interests. You will need an administrator. John or Neil will advise what is entailed.
