DPS member Les Travis witnessed and recorded a spectacular fire in Newton Ayliffe.
Just after 1pm today (5 November) there were reports of an explosion, followed by a large fire at Stillers storage depot. Newton Aycliffe Ind Est...not far from the council offices... Fire crews attended the incident and a large police cordon was placed around the scene.
It is believed that a large quantity of aerosol canisters, tyres and wooden pallets were present... Witnesses reported a large explosion and smoke and flames billowing from the site.
The Fire Service say they were not aware of any casualties at the time and have no information as to the cause of the blaze. The Health and Safety Executive was informed...
