Steetley Chimney to be demolished Sunday 29th July
With the Steetley Magnasite works demolition nearing completion, the famous landmark chimney near Hartlepool will be blown up at approximately 11.00 am on Sunday 29th July. The exact time depends on train traffic on the nearby railway. There will be a 200 metre or so exclusion zone north and south of the site extending from the railway to the sea. The Old Cemetery road area will be a popular parking and viewing area with collectors for charity and possibly old-timers who once worked at the works being amongst the crowds. Canny photographers may try and shoot with long lenses from the Headland so as to have the context of houses in view, from the northern perimeter of the site or from boats at sea.

The chimney is a magnificent and beautiful structure that will be greatly missed. There are thrilling Youtube clips to be seen of daring adventurers climbing up the inside and incredible views from the top. Just Google to find.
