TALES FROM THE FRONT LINE - A TRIP TO WOLSINGHAM SHOW

From our Internationals Correspondent

Three Durham PS photographers decided to get some practise in before the next Assignment Group meeting at the Stanhope Show (on Sat 10th - see the Blog for more details of this) by visiting the Wolsingham Agricultural Show on Saturday 3rd September.

Vice-Prez Tony, the French Ambassador Lilian and myself (plus my dad who insisted on coming along!) decided to ignore the less than favourable weather forecast and duly rolled into the car park at 8am today. Early signs didn't look good as it started to spit rain just as we pulled our camera bags out of the car boot. Nonetheless, armed with cameras, lenses and umbrellas, we walked into the showground ready to photograph anything that moved.

We were probably a tad early as at 8am there wasn't much activity and not much was open - apart from the burger and coffee vans of course. So, it seemed exceedingly rude not to head there for food and drink. After scoffing a few sausage sarnies and slurping on coffee, we headed off in our separate directions, searching for pictures.

There was plenty to photograph - dog displays, horse riding events, craft tents, lots of animal judging (cows, sheep, hens, rabbits, ducks...if it had legs, squawked, clucked, went baaa or mooed, it was being judged!), dressage, show jumping and for those that like machines there was tractors, cars and all sorts of gubbins that belong on a farm. As the weather wasn't great, we were informed on the PA that the parachute display team couldn't jump out of the plane circling over our heads which was a shame. However, what with all the things to photograph - including of course all the opportunities for people watching and the taking of candids - we all managed to get a few decent images.

After 5 hours, we decided to head home, memory cards full and with the skies starting to darken. Wolsingham Show comes highly recommended, so next week at Stanhope should be just as good.
