News: From the Front Line of Stanhope Show

By our Roving Reporter On Assignment

Once again the intrepid Colin led his band of enthusiasts on assignment, this time to Stanhope Show. Saturday dawned pretty bleakly, and some fifteen of us made our way to the show ground through thick fog. However once on site the weather became merely dull, with very occasional spells of sunshine.

Stanhope show is long established and there were all the usual attractions, craft stalls, cattle and sheep judging, show jumping, dog obedience and a host of interesting characters, some of them our own members.

Photographic activity was most marked in the livestock zone, and I found this the best area, as it was possible to get in really close. Lilian's 500mm lens might have been a problem unless he was interested in details of sheeps' eyes. Tony was unable to make the excellent lunch at the Black Bull as he had been sampling bacon sandwiches, and spent too much time looking for his mojo.

Unfortunately I missed the rabbits and small livestock as the judging went on so long I would have missed the pub lunch. Also for those who returned after noshing, there was the added attraction of a motorcycle display team. I hope we shall see some pictures of this, perhaps from Colin himself, as he used to specialise in this before he turned rusty.

I feel sure everyone enjoyed the event as much as I did. We all look forward with bated breath to the review session and to see where Colin will take the group next time. If you've never joined one of these expeditions before, it makes a great day out........give it a try.
