News: RPS DISTINCTION FOR DPS PRESIDENT

For those who know his brilliant photography it is no surprise to hear the news this week that David Trout, popular President of Durham Photographic Society, has been awarded his Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society after successfully submitted a panel of prints to the RPS at its recent Licentiate Assessment Day

David writes of his experience:

“It was a very long but fascinating session with my pictures coming up 17th out of the 18 they did before the lunch break.

Two of the five assessors are known to Durham PS - Peter Patterson from Stirling who was with us just a couple of weeks ago and our old friend Malcolm Kus. Neither of them were aware I was in the audience or whose pictures they were judging. The five panelists took turns to comment on each panel as they went through and it fell to Peter Patterson to sum up my submission. He said the photographer had a good eye for picture material and he commented on the overall quality and variety of the set, including the print quality (thank you John and Louise).

When I went to collect my prints at the end of the session I was told the RPS wished to retain them and two other sets to use at distinctions advisory days across the country. They said they demonstrated the standard the RPS was looking for. At least I think that was what they said - they might have said they demonstrated how NOT to do it. My mind was in a whirl by that time.”

Many congratulations to David Trout LRPS!

The next RPS distinctions advisory day in the north east is likely to be at Backkworth Hall in May 2012. Check out the Blog item from the archive, “NEWS REPORT: RPS Distinctions Workshop” which was posted in May this year.

Another brick in the wall, David Trout
