REVIEW: My Passion for Photography

WILL CHEUNG FRPS

13th November 2010

A packed house of DPS members and guests were wowed by this special event, which was additional to the published programme. For almost three hours Will Cheung entertained, beguiled and enthused us with wonderful photography from across seven continents. The subjects ranged from wildlife to portraits to street to night photography and more, much more. He certainly lived up to his reputation for loving all kinds of photography and as our own John Clarke ARPS said, “How does one man fit so much into a life?

The session was packed with fascinating anecdotes and insights into Will’s photography and processing techniques. This reviewer was particularly taken with the idea of, in the absence of tripod, lie flat on your back, and the simply advice, “Take a lot (of pictures)”!

The audience of Durham Photographic Society members, fellow enthusiasts, passionate about photography, were well and truly won over by a master at the top of his game. Will Cheung is one of us! We are not alone! Software will be tested, photography methods will be tried, numerous projects, both serious and just for fun, will be undertaken.

The good news is Will will visit us again in 2012. Meantime, after many years editing photography magazines, he is launching a new one called Advanced Photography which will be out 17th November. After this tour de force, at least 100 sales to DPS members are guaranteed.
