STOCKTON HERE WE COME!

Assignment Stockton, Saturday 17th March

Stockton-on-Tees is a lively, diverse place and assignmenteers are guaranteed a good day out. The unique, broad, town centre High Street has a large pedestrian area running down the middle. This is where the famous Saturday market, with over 150 stalls, one of the largest in the UK, is located. Here too, centrally placed, is the town hall, built in 1735 in the Dutch style. The plan is to meet at the adjacent monument at 10.00 a.m. Opportunities for early-bird coffee etc are nearby.

Other delights include the small Georgian quarter complete with a Flea Market. There are several bridges, including the stunning Infinity Bridge, across the river Tees, which runs roughly parallel to the High Street They take you to the modern architecture of the newly developed business and university campus areas. Down-stream is the Tees Barrage with, hopefully, canoeists slaloming through the rapids.

Lunch will be at 1.00 in the Georgia Brown on Dovecote Street a short distance from the town hall.
