TORNADO AT SHILDON RAILWAY MUSEUM LOCOMOTION EVENT THIS WEEKEND

On the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday May 1, Sunday May 2 and Monday May 3, Tornado will be starring in a ‘North Eastern Giants of Steam’ gala event at the museum. This is your chance to see the locomotive in light steam and – for a small additional charge –access the locomotive’s cab. More information:

TORNADO BLOWS INTO TOON

The first mainline steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years travelled through the region again on Saturday 24th April. Your intrepid band of Bloggers failed to pick up the news of this momentous photography opportunity in time to alert members. We are therefore putting out the call for a member who is a steam enthusiast to act as locomotive correspondent and keep us informed of future events and all things steam for the Blog. Meantime, Tornado is at the National Railway Museum in Shildon, Co Durham, until 5th May.

Bike Wise Easter Egg Run-2010

Members of Durham PS were able to record this years Bike Wise Easter Egg Run.

Over eight hundred bikers turned up with Easter eggs, which were presented to the children’s wards at Darlington Memorial Hospital and the University Hospital of North Durham.

CLUB NIGHT NEWS 22.4.10

NORTHERN COUNTIES PHOTOGRAPHIC FEDERATION COMPETITIONS

The President, David Trout, congratulated the many members who achieved individual success which led to the Society doing well in the club competitions. The top six most highly scored entries going on to represent each club. In the monochrome print section, for instance, we were only one mark behind the winning club, Dumfries CC. 2nd PROGRESS PRINTS

There is a short extension of the closing date to next Monday if you can get your prints to Alan Clarke who lives in Pity Me (contact details on this website and in your programme).

REMINDER THE DPS BOTANIC GARDENS EXHIBITION – FOLIO 2010

Now on and looking good! It is in the café area which is free to enter. Please take a look and, while you are there, why not enjoy the spring-time botanic gardens. There is a small charge to visit the extensive gardens themselves.

ASSIGNMENT GROUP VISIT TO WEARDALE Saturday 17th April

Another successful and enjoyable event! The debrief, looking at the resulting pictures, will be Tuesday 4th May, 7.00 pm County Hall. The next visit will be to Tanfield – details to follow.

GOTHS FESTIVAL

Many members will be off to Whitby this weekend! If you cannot make it, make sure you catch the DPS Portraits exhibition (on until 30th April) at the Town Hall Entrance gallery which features Goths (as well as Wartime Weekend portraits).

CLUB NIGHT 29th APRIL

Garry Courtney from Hartlepool CC is showing pictures under the title, “Hometown Hartlepool”. Members will remember seeing last year Garry’s outstanding documentary prints of the fading seaside town of Seaton Carew. Hartlepool as you’ve never seen it before is guaranteed! Of particular interest to the assignment group who took on the challenge of Hartlepool earlier this year.

CLUB NIGHT NEWS 15.4.10

DPS BOTANIC GARDENS EXHIBITION – FOLIO 2010

The team will be setting up on Saturday 17th April at 9.30 am. Feel free to come along and lend a hand or simply enjoy the exhibition. It will be in the café area which is free to enter. There is a charge for visiting the Gardens which are looking good and full of photography opportunities.

The eagerly anticipated results night for the Trio print completion judged by the renowned photographer, Malcolm Kus ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP.

This is also the closing date for the 2nd Progress print competition which has sections for experienced and less experienced workers. A chance for new members to dip their toe into the competition world!

CLUB NIGHT NEWS 1.4.10

ASSIGNMENT GROUP – JOIN US!

Next outing is Sat 17th April, meeting around 10.00 am in Westgate in Weardale and lunch at the Black Bull in Frosterley. Open to all members. New members may like to join us to socialise, get to know people and enjoy the photography. The idea, having met up, is to be in small groups or do your own thing. Photography opportunities will abound. There will be a follow up session where the pictures are discussed and experiences shared – up to 4 prints, up to A4 in size.

DPS DIGITAL NIGHT

Wednesday 7th April, County Hall 7 to 9 pm, Conference Room 4B, 4th floor. It’s a room with a spectacular view of the cathedral so bring your camera. Demonstrations by John Gordon and Alan Clarke plus open Q & A session. If you need help with an image, bring with you, preferably on USB drive.

BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL SALON OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Congratulations to DPS President, David Trout who has two acceptances and DPS member Neil Maughan DPAGB, LRPS who has five. This huge success will hopefully encourage other members to send work, competing with photographers from all over the world, not least to the forthcoming Northern Counties Photographic Federation International Salon of Photography 2010 (details as previously posted).
