CLUB NIGHT NEWS 24.610

CLUB NIGHT 1st July PRINT AND DIGITAL KNOCKOUT

In both competitions, two pictures are put up at a time, members vote and the most popular goes through to the next round and so on until there is a winning print and a winning digital image. There will be prizes! It’s fun and it’s exciting.

On the night, bring in up to 4 prints, maximum size A4 including mount. Bigger prints will not be accepted. They will be around the room so you can take a close look before the competition starts.

Digital images should be: maximum height 768 pixels, maximum width 1024 pixels and sRGB colour space. Email them to Roger ahead of the night if you can, or bring in on the night (as early as possibly!) on disc or memory stick.

New work, unseen at the club before, please. The photographers will not be revealed until after the votes.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION, GALILEE CHAPEL, DURHAM CATHEDRAL

The prints are now all in and a small committee will organise and label them. Setting up will be from 10.00 am, Friday 9th July. Volunteers are needed for this enjoyable but considerable task. Simply turn up on the day.

The exhibition will be opened at 7.00 pm, with access to the cathedral between 6.30 and 8.30 for members and guests.

The stewarding list is now up at the club. Time slots are10-12, 12-2, 2 to 4 and 4-6, 9th to 22nd July. Please put your name down for the ones you would like to do as soon as possible. Given the wonderful setting and the chance to meet and chat to visitors from all over the world, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Hurry!

PHOTOGRAPHY NIGHT FOR MEMBERS IN THE CATHEDRAL

John Attle is endeavouring to organise another special night. Please let him know if you are interested.

NEWS REPORT 18th June 2010

STEETLEY MAGNASITE WORKS

Sadly for photographers, this massive, near derelict industrial heritage site near the Hartlepool Headland now has 24 hour security preventing access to most of the site. Even the amazing pipeline structure that once pumped seawater into the plant (for many years, magnesium was extracted from the water) has been severed at the landward end preventing pedestrian access.

There is still some potential for photography and of course the coalfield coast beach area is still open in all its amazing beauty. You will find the security people friendly and they will explain exactly where you can and cannot go.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the major work of demolition starts in August. The site will ultimately be turned to luxury housing though a large part to the north will be retained as a nature conservation area.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION, GALILEE CHAPEL, DURHAM CATHEDRAL

There has been a very good response so far. Last date to bring in your prints is Thursday 24th June. What happens next is a group of members, including Colin, Don, John A and Dennis produce and fix print labels and work out the curation of the exhibition, i.e. what print goes where. Starting at 10.00 a.m. 9th July volunteers will set up the exhibition in the Galilee Chapel using the large display boards owned by the Society. Please feel free to get involved. There will be an opening event at 7.00 pm to which all members and guests are invited. Thereafter there will be a call for volunteer stewarding for the duration of the exhibition.
