This award is given every year to an individual member in recognition of outstanding service to the Society. For 2009 the winner is John Brown for his outstanding work in the development of this website. Vice President, Tony Griffiths, praised the transformation of the website achieved by John, and its functionality . He highlighted, particularly, the value to the membership of the Blog section with its news and stop press information, along with competition winning pictures promptly posted, and the thriving Portfolio section. The latter has 5 portfolio groups of members, with two easily operated models, and some 800 pictures posted and commented upon. The website is constantly evolving and we have reason to be grateful to John for his skills and commitment.

NCPF ANNUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2010 – NEWS REPORT

The Northern Counties Photographic Federation’s “Knockout” club championship took place on February 7th at the Harraton Community Centre, Washington before a large and enthusiastic audience.
In the first round, the DPS Club entries were awarded an unprecedented (in recent times!) 2nd place in both the Electronic Images and the Prints sections. This meant that we went forward to the finals with a chance, if we were 1st or 2nd, to represent the Federation at the national PAGB finals in October.
In the finals, clubs are bound by fairly complicated rules but, essentially, can re-enter successful pictures from the previous round and introduce new images. In the event, Durham came 5th in the Electronic Images section with 223 points (the winning club had 264 points) and 3rd in the print section with 174 points (the winning club had 180 points). In the print section, another 5 points would have secured us 2nd position and a place in the PAGB finals. So near!
Individual members achieved outstanding scores from the distinguished judges: Neil Maughan (Dawn over Dunstanburgh), Les Travis (Family Squabble)and David Trout (Schizophrenia)all having maximum 15 out of 15 scores, and David Trout and Dennis Hardingham having 14 out of 15 for two more images.
In the Print section, with 3 out of the 6 entries having 15 points being by DPS members, after much deliberation, Les Travis’ Family Squabble was voted best print in the competition.
Well done and congratulations to everyone taking part, and thanks to Don Bennett for co-ordinating on the day.
